Top 5 Beards of the Year named

The Beard Liberation Front, the informal network of beard wearers, has named the Top 5 Beards of the Year after an on-line poll attracted thousands of votes.

1 Conchita Wurst, Eurovision 2014 winner

2 Bartosz Bialkowski, Ipswich town goalkeeper

3 Peter Coles, University of Sussex academic

4] Philip Ardagh, writer

5] Moeen Ali, cricketer

The contest has run every year since 1995 with previous winners including Led Zeppelin’s Robert Plant and politician Jeremy Corbyn MP.

BLF Organiser Keith Flett said, The level of hirsuteness is growing across Europe, but the yearly poll reflects those beards which have made the most impact in the public eye.

The criteria for the Shortlist were as follows:

A beard worn consistently throughout the year

A beard that at least meets the standards of the Clint Eastwood Spaghetti Western style, that is post-stubble

A beard that has been in the public eye during the year and which has had a positive impact

The Beard Liberation Front marks National No Shaving Day on January 1st 2015
