150  STRONG TOTTENHAM RALLY SENDS UNITED ANTI-CUTS MESSAGE

A 150 strong rally at the Park View Academy in Tottenham on Wednesday evening organised by Haringey TUC and the Right to Work campaign sent a message of unity against the cuts to the Government and support for students protesting against attacks on education.

The rally heard from Paul Power, local NUT rep, Frank Murray Seven Sisters RMT rep, Chris Taylor, Ass.Secretary Haringey UNISON, Tamsin Murray Haringey Youth Centres Campaign and Jenny Sutton UCU Branch Secretary at the College of north-east London in Tottenham.

Tottenham MP David Lammy also sent a message of support calling for a fight against Con-Dem Government measures that was backed by the meeting.

Haringey Trades Council Chair and lifelong Spurs fan Keith Flett said It was a packed, diverse and young meeting, including several student protesters who had escaped the police kettle in Whitehall and the mood was one of fighting cuts.

 

Two initiatives were backed by the meeting:-

A protest march against betting shops in Tottenham and for jobs assembling at Everybody’s Music on Tottenham High Rd at midday on Saturday 27th November.

A protest against local LibDem MP and Con-Dem Minister Lynne Featherstone at midday on Saturday 11th December, assemble Crouch End clock tower.
