Campaigners say if Rory Stewart is to ‘go all the way’ in Tory leadership race he needs a beard

The Beard Liberation Front, the informal network of beard wearers, has said that following the second round of the Tory leadership election on Tuesday outsider Penrith and Border MP Rory Stewart looks decently placed to be one of the two MPs who go through to a ballot of Tory members from 22nd June.

However the campaigners say that Stewart needs to differentiate himself image wise and the best way of doing this is to grow a beard.

Stewart told political journalist Robert Peston on Monday that he was unable to grow a beard but the BLF says this seems unlikely and has offered Stewart some guidelines on how to set about it

BLF Organiser Keith Flett said, the last Prime Minister with a beard, Lord Salisbury in 1902, was a Tory so if Rory Stewart was to grow a beard he would not only set himself apart image wise from the other candidates but stand in a great Conservative tradition of hirsuteness as well

Guidelines on beard growth

1] Do not shave

2] After 24 hours examine the face for signs of facial hair. At this stage stubble should have appeared. This can be trimmed to suit the kind of beard required.

3] Trimming every 12 hours will promote growth as it does with a hedge

4] If the growth of facial hair appears insufficient for requirements rubbing the face with a follicle nutrient- various preparations are easily available- should do the trick
