Haringey Trades Council has said that it is backing the Stand Up to Racism national protest in central London on Saturday 19th March. It will join the two Haringey Labour Parties and other trade union and political organisations.

The protest will gather at the BBC in Portland Place and march to Trafalgar Square. It will focus on opposing racism, anti-Semitism, islamophobia and fascism.

The trade unionists say that with the current focus on refugees, the march has particular importance in underlining that those fleeing persecution and war are welcome in Haringey as they have been for over a century.

Haringey TUC Secretary Keith Flett said, Haringey is the most diverse Borough in Europe and it is something to celebrate. There is no place for the division that any kind of racism sows in our communities and we will be marching on Saturday to underline that point.
