The Beard Liberation Front, the informal network of beard wearers, has said that it is pleased that Islington North MP Jeremy Corbyn has decided to stand for the nomination for the Labour Party leadership.

The campaigners say that Corbyn is a ‘hirsute icon’ and has won the annual Parliamentary Beard of the Year accolade on five occasions more times than anyone else, and won the overall Beard of the Year for the first time as long ago as 2001.

The BLF says that Corbyn has consistently stood up for hirsute issues in Parliament and if successful would be the first Labour leader with facial hair since Clement Attlee.

BLF Organiser Keith Flett said, We’re clear that Jeremy Corbyn stands for ‘no cuts’

Beard Week 2015 starts on June 29th
