After Eric Hobsbawm another historian becomes a Companion of Honour

In Uncategorized on June 14, 2024 by kmflett

The late marxist historian Eric Hobsbawm was appointed a Companion of Honour. However much deserved it did seem a little odd for a lifelong Communist to accept one of the most senior honours the British State can confer. Its limited to 65 members.

The King’s Birthday Honours List has added another historian as a CH. Gordon Brown did not get the honour for his historical work but his background was as a labour historian. His thesis was on the Scottish Labour Party 1918-1929

Meanwhile a rather more right-wing historian Niall Ferguson has had to make to do with a Knighthood
