Francis Wheen bearded by Paxman, Malone & Brand for Beard of Year nomination

The Beard Liberation Front, the informal network of beard wearers, has said that with just a week to go until the close of nominations for Beard of the Year shortlist author Francis Wheen is being bearded by Jeremy Paxman, Gareth Malone & Russell Brand for a place on the shortlist

Wheen, who has grown a magnificant Karl Marx style beard is in the lead for a nomination but others are gaining on him

A shortlist of candidates will be issued on 28th November with the winner announced after a poll on December 28th.

As joint winner of one of the four seasonal quarterly awards Tony Benn is automatically on the shortlist but he has also been nominated by Labour MP Jeremy Corbyn, himself a veteran standard wearer for the hirsute and former winner of the Award.
