Growth of beards leads to shaving industry crisis: sales of razors down 5.1%

The Beard Liberation Front, the informal network of beard wearers, has said that news that the growth and resilience of beards is leading to a crisis in the shaving industry is welcome but a key priority is the jobs of workers.

According to research in the US the entirely commendable reluctance of many to shave, and the positive desire to grow a beard, has led to a 5.1% decline in razor sales and a question mark over profitability for companies like Gillette which has been particularly hit by the rise of beard power.

The campaigners say that workers engaged in the production of razors and shaving foam already have hirsute ready skills and these should be redeployed, with appropriate training, into the production of beard care products

BLF Organiser Keith Flett said, beards are here to stay and the shaving industry needs to get bristling with alternatives to shaving foam.
