Beard of Summer winner Philip Ardagh will set tone for ‘heatwave’ beards

The Beard Liberation Front, the informal network of beard wearers, has said the winner of the Beard of Summer 2018, author Philip Ardagh, looks set to set the benchmark for the beard style of 2018 in what is becoming a ‘heatwave’ summer.

Mr Ardagh got just over 50% of the vote in the on-line poll shaving Australian football captain Mile Jedinak and Logan Plant of Beavertown Brewery. The Award is part of National Beard Week which concludes on 30th June.

The author has welcomed the Award, underlining that he is a long-standing beard wearer.

The campaigners say that while wearing a full organic beard as Philip Ardagh does, may seem counter-intuitive in hot weather, in reality it both protects against the sun and has a cooling effect.

BLF Organiser Keith Flett said, we think Philip Ardagh’s beard will now set the tone for beard wearing in the heat of the summer and we expect to see a thousand Ardagh’s bloom.

Tommy Fleetwood golfer
