Sir Mo Farah joins Beard Hall of Fame as he ends his track career

The Beard Liberation Front, the informal network of beard wearers, has said that Sir Mo Farah, has been appointed to the Beard Hall of Fame after ending his phenomenal international athletics track career at the Olympic Stadium with a silver medal in the 5000 metres.

The Hall of Fame, a virtual listing, consists of a range of hirsute public figures, both alive and deceased, whose beard has had a distinctively positive impact in the public sphere.

It currently includes Richard Attenborough, Tony Benn, Acker Bilk, Brian Blessed, Frank Dobson, Bob Dylan, Dave Swarbrick and Spike Milligan amongst others.

It is the highest honour a beard wearer can attain

The campaigners say that Sir Mo Farah has a distinctive modern goatee style beard that has seen many copies in recent years.

BLF organiser Keith Flett said, Sir Mo Farah is one of the great post-1945 beard wearers. His success on the athletics track disproves once and for all that facial hair slows down an athletes performance.
