Labour wins Council seat from UKIP in Margate, one of Marx’s favourite seaside resorts

An election for a seat on Thanet District Council on 3rd August saw Labour take a seat from UKIP.

It has taken a while but Margate was a seaside resort oft frequented by Karl Marx, primarily for health reasons.

He was there in March 1866 and wrote to his daughter Laura

“You can get 12 pictures in visiting-card format for 3 shilling 6 pence, and 48 for 10 shillings.”

It has taken time but the hand of history has visited UKIP in Kent
