Moeen Ali becomes first England cricketer with a beard to take a Test hat-trick

The Beard Liberation Front, the informal network of beard wearers, has said that England all-rounder Moeen Ali has become the first England cricketer with a beard to take a hat trick in a Test Match.

Moeen dismissed the final three South African batsmen at the Oval on Monday afternoon to bring England victory in the Third Test by 239 runs

The BBC have reported that Moeen is only the third man in Test history to seal victory with a hat-trick and the first for 115 years but significantly failed to note the crucial beard element to his bowling success.

England top the all-time list with 14 Test hat-tricks but while several earlier players on the list had moustaches, Moeen is the first to wear a full beard.

BLF supporter Peter Coles tweeted that Moeen’s key wicket taking delivery is a ball that goes on with the beard

BLF organiser Keith Flett said, with today’s hat-trick Moeen Ali is fast becoming the most significant England cricketer with a beard since W G Grace.
