Aleem Dar sets new hirsute Benchmark for cricket Umpires

The Beard Liberation Front, the informal network of beard wearers, has said that Pakistan cricket Umpire Aleem Dar is setting a new standard for hirsute Umpiring in the Third Test at the Oval.

The veteran Umpire who has stood in a record 322 international matches reportedly grew the imposing and gravitas adding beard after advice from South African batsman Hashim Amla.

The campaigners say that with notable exceptions such as Peter Willey, Test Match umpiring has tended to be a very clean-shaven.

Beard Liberation Front organiser Keith Flett said, when an Umpire as senior as Aleem Dar is hirsute it is a clear sign that this is the Age of the Beard for Test Match officials.
