Joe Root’s beard not to blame for England defeat

The Beard Liberation Front, the informal network of beard wearers, has said that England captain Joe Root must resist what will almost inevitably be calls for him to shave off his beard after England lost within four days to South Africa at Trent Bridge.

The campaigners say that while a number of possible reasons for the poor nature of England’s performance in the 2nd Test can be identified, the Captain’s beard is not among them.

This can be underlined by the fact that the winning South African Test captain Faf de Plessis is also hirsute.

BLF Organiser Keith Flett, said, there will always be those who think that any England captain who does not walk onto the pitch clean shaven and with a short back and sides has deep failings of leadership. The reality is that the England side failed at Nottingham, not the captain’s beard.
