Jeremy Corbyn reinforces hirsute Labour leader tradition at Durham Miners Gala started by Keir Hardie

The Beard Liberation Front has said that when he addresses the Durham Miners Gala on Saturday Jeremy Corbyn will continue the revival he started in 2016 of Labour leaders with a beard addressing the great labour movement festival.

The tradition was started by Keir Hardie when he addressed the 35th Durham Miners Gala in 1905 although he was not formally the Labour leader until 1906 when he spoke at the 36th Gala.

The tradition then underwent a 110-year hiatus until Jeremy Corbyn revived it in 2016.

BLF Organiser Keith Flett said, the Durham Miners Gala is an event which recalls the solidarity of the labour movement past and present. With Jeremy Corbyn treading in the footsteps of Keir Hardie on Saturday there is a reminder that beard power is a great labour movement tradition.
