Campaigners back first England cricket captain with a beard for 25 years

The Beard Liberation Front, the informal network of beard wearers, has welcomed the first England cricket captain with a beard since Graham Gooch 25 years ago, as Joe Root won the toss at Lords on Thursday morning.

Root’s beard is still in progress but has already been the subject on Test Match Special of pogonophobic comments by former England captain Michael Vaughan.
