Haringey trade unionists support Crouch End Picturehouse strike for Living Wage & Union recognition on Friday

Haringey Trades Council, the local section of the TUC in North London has said that it is hoping for a good turn-out of solidarity support for a strike at the Crouch End Picturehouse in Tottenham Lane N8 on Friday July 7th at 5pm.

There will be a picket at the cinema and a support rally.

The action, the latest in a long running dispute is in pursuit of the London Living Wage and union recognition. Both have been resisted by Picturehouse behind which sits the giant leisure company Cineworld.

In addition a focus on Friday is on the victimisation and sacking of union reps at another cinema, the Ritzy in Brixton.

Haringey TUC Secretary Keith Flett said, this is a totemic dispute for Haringey. People think of Crouch End as a well-off area but the reality is that someone has to keep these areas serviced and running and those people are often not well paid. This is a ‘which side are you on’ dispute. The huge leisure company or the workers trying to get a decent living?
