The Beard Liberation Front, the informal network of beard wearers, has said that National Beard Week which ended on July 1st has been judged the most successful ever in terms of raising the profile of the hirsute.

From Jeremy Corbyn’s victory in the Hirsute Personality of the Year poll on Monday to Welsh Assembly member Hefin David’s success in the Beard of Summer vote in Saturday there was record interest in the events of National Beard Week.

BLF Organiser Keith Flett said, there is no question that the surge in support for Jeremy Corbyn has raised the profile of beards in public life and made society in general more receptive to positive images of the hirsute. There remains much work to do yet however in opposing discrimination as the recent case of an East London building firm banning beards for their employees underlines.
