Michael Rosen named as Hirsute Broadcaster of the Year

The Beard Liberation Front, the informal network of beard wearers, has named the presenter of Radio 4’s Word of Mouth programme Michael Rosen as hirsute broadcaster of the year 2017. He shaved LBC and BBC Newsnight broadcaster James O’Brien, the 2016 winner, for the title as part of National Beard Week

The campaigners say that the world of broadcasting remains extremely pogonophobic despite Jeremy Paxman’s high profile comments on the matter in his final months as presenter of Newsnight.

BLF Organiser Keith Flett said, Michael Rosen’s programme about how words and language are used also undermines one of the oldest pogonophobic stereotypes, namely that the hirsute mumble into their beards.
