Teacher’s Union leader Kevin Courtney shaves Spurs’ Harry Kane to win Beard of Spring poll

The Beard Liberation Front, the informal network of beard wearers, has said that General Secretary of the National Union of Teachers Kevin Courtney has shaved Spurs’ star Harry Kane to win the coveted Beard of Spring 2017 title in an on-line poll that ended at midnight on Saturday.

Courtney won almost 50% of the poll with Kane trailing in second on just under 20%. Golfer Sergio Garcia and SDLP leader Colum Eastwood came third and fourth

The NUT is currently holding its Easter conference in Cardiff and Kevin Courtney, and his beard, have had a high public profile. Harry Kane’s goal for Spurs on Saturday was his 20th of the season.

The campaigners say the Beard of Spring is not about beard style or length but about the impact the beard wearer has made in the public eye.

BLF Organiser Keith Flett said, both Kevin Courtney and Harry Kane underline the impact the hirsute now have in public life.
