Inquiry launched into disappearance of Test Match Special’s Charles Dagnall’s beard

Charles Dagnall’s Award winning beard has now disappeared

The Beard Liberation Front, the informal network of beard wearers, has said that is has launched an inquiry into the disappearance of Test Match Special commentator Charles Dagnall’s beard.

Dagnall known as Daggers was a runner-up for the Beard of Winter Award in January 2017 but the TMS twitter feed on 9th March tweeted a picture of Dagnall commentating on the third ODI between West Indies and England entirely clean shaven.

The campaigners say that while Dagnall is entirely free to have a beard or not there is a suspicion that a quiet word may have been had. Jeremy Paxman while still presenting BBC Newsnight in August 2013 appeared with a beard and revealed he had come under pressure to shave it. He duly did so in January 2014 arguing that there was pogonophobia at some senior levels in the BBC

BLF organiser Keith Flett said, it is potentially troubling that Charles Dagnall’s beard has disappeared and we want to establish if there was any informal pressure involved. It is rare for people who feature in Beard of the Season Awards as Daggers did, to shave their beards, so it is concern.
