Beard of Winter award presentation for Welsh Charcutier
The Beard Liberation Front, the informal network of beard wearers, has said that Illtud Llyr Dunsford (The Charcutier) the winner of the 2016 Best Food Producer in in Awards hosted by Radio 4’s The Food Programme has been presented with his Beard of Winter Award at Roath farmers market in Cardiff on Saturday morning.
Mr Dunsford competed with Archers scriptwriter Keri Davies and BBC sports commentator Charles Dagnall to be runner up in the hotly contested on-line poll
The shortlist ranged from journalists to, writers, footballers and Chief Executives, but as usual, the key point was whether their beard is helping to create a positive image of the hirsute in public life.
It is the first of four seasonal awards that lead to the Beard of the Year Award in December 2017.
The Beard of Winter focuses both on fuller organic beards, suitable for winter weather, and on beards that have made an early New Year impact in the public eye.
BLF Organiser Keith Flett said, IIItud has a magnificent organic beard, just the thing for a chilly day in Cardiff. While he was runner-up for Beard of Winter, he will surely be a significant contender for the annual Beard of Wales Award on 1st March. Many will be hoping that his good second place heralds a first place for the hirsute Welsh rugby side at the Principality Stadium later on Saturday.
