Archers’ scriptwriter Keri Davies beards opponents to win the Beard of Winter poll

The Beard Liberation Front, the informal network of beard wearers, has said that Keri Davies, probably best known for his work on Radio 4’s The Archers, has won the poll for the coveted Beard of Winter 2017 Award.

With over 60% of the vote he bearded Illtud Llyr Dunsford (The Charcutier)  the winner of the 2016 Best Food Producer in in Awards hosted by Radio 4’s The Food Programme and Charles Dagnall commentator on Radio 5’s Test Match Special and NFL coverage who came a good third.

The shortlist ranged from journalists to, writers, footballers and Chief Executives, but as usual, the key point was whether their beard is helping to create a positive image of the hirsute in public life.

It is the first of four seasonal awards that lead to the Beard of the Year Award in December 2017.

The Beard of Winter focuses both on fuller organic beards, suitable for winter weather, and on beards that have made an early New Year impact in the public eye.

BLF Organiser Keith Flett said, Keri Davies whose twitter Avatar shows his beard to good effect tweeted that he had grown a beard around a year ago. Of course beards on radio are quite difficult to spot but in this case it’s clear that the growth of facial hair has added even more gravitas to his scriptwriting.
