The Beard Liberation Front, the informal network of beard wearers, has said that Match of the Day presenter Gary Lineker has been shaved for the Beard of the Year by Hackney brewer Tim O’Rourke, who is at the Howling Hops brewery in Hackney Wick.

There was a record vote in the poll, which saw Lineker trail behind Amber Valley Councillor and Jeremy Corbyn supporter Ben Bellamy and  Welsh football star Joe Ledley.

The campaigners say that Lineker polled well with his distinctive goatee beard but 2016 was a year for the full organic beard
