Hackney v the Midlands splitting hairs for Beard of Year title
Hackney v Midlands
The Beard Liberation Front the informal network of beard wearers has said with the on-line vote for Beard of the Year which ends at midday on 24th December there is a battle for the spiritual home of the UK’s hirsute underway.
Hackney based Howling Hops brewer Tim O’Rourke is currently splitting hairs with Ben Bellamy a Councillor in Derbyshire.
Hackney is often held to be the centre of the hipster beard, on trend and carefully styled, while the Midlands can be seen to be the home of a more of a rugged industrial beard.
In 2015 London brewer Bryan Spooner won the vote.
The campaigners say that the award is specifically not about who has the best or most magnificent beard. Rather it focuses on the beard wearer who has made the most positive hirsute public impact during the year.
The winner is announced on 29th December.
BLF Organiser Keith Flett said, of course regional differences are far from the only factor in determining the Beard of the Year but this year’s poll has promoted an interesting dialectical polarity.
