Write-In votes see Belper Labour Councillor Ben Bellamy join Beard of Year poll
The Beard Liberation Front the informal network of beard wearers has said that Belper Labour Councillor Ben Bellamy is a surprise late addition to the on-line vote for Beard of the Year which ends at midday on 24th December.
Cllr Bellamy, well known for his robust organic beard in labour movement circles, tipped over the number of write-in votes to get on the poll on Sunday.
In 2015 London brewer Bryan Spooner won the vote.
The campaigners say that the award is specifically not about who has the best or most magnificent beard. Rather it focuses on the beard wearer who has made the most positive hirsute public impact during the year.
The winner is announced on 29th December.
BLF Organiser Keith Flett said, write-in additions to the Beard of the Year poll have always been an option but don’t happen too often. In this case Cllr Bellamy clearly has a network of beard enthusiasts so he may yet do well in the days left to the close of the poll on Saturday
