The Beard Liberation Front, the informal network of beard wearers, has said that with the Party Conference season underway the battle is set to be well and truly joined in the poll for the ‘Most Hirsute Party Conference’.

The LIbDem conference in Brighton represents the first serious challenge for the title. The LibDem conference won the title as recently as 2014

The BLF will have observers watching each of the main conferences, LibDems in Brighton, Labour in Liverpool and the Tories in Birmingham with the winner announced on October 5th the final day of the Tory conference.

There is an expectation of a stiff challenge for the title from Labour with its first bearded leader since 1908 set to make a keynote speech in Liverpool, subject to his re-election on 24th September.

There is an on-line poll which closes on 4th October

BLF Organiser Keith Flett said, image matters in modern politics. We don’t include, for example, the UKIP conference, in the poll because the conference deliberately sets out to ignore diversity. The SNP conference is set to be included in 2017.
