Roald Dahl: the pogonophobe, the hirsute can laugh with
The Beard Liberation Front has said that on the 100th anniversary of the birth of one of the most notoriously pogonophobic authors, Roald Dahl, his book the Twits is something the hirsute can laugh with rather than get mad at.
In the Twits, Mr Twit, a generally rather disgusting character is portrayed as someone who never washes or takes any care of his beard. As a result remains of previous meals, including stilton, sardines and scrambled egg can be found in it.
The campaigners say that Dahl’s caricature of beard wearers is something that the hirsute can laugh about. Most of those who have facial hair take great care over their appearance.
BLF Organiser Keith Flett said, we’ll be raising a centenary glass to Roald Dahl this week. Mr Twit is a disgusting, fun, character and of course a reminder of everything genuine beard wearers are not.
