The Beard Liberation Front, the informal network of beard wearers, has said that after the failure of Michael Gove to display his new beard in public for the best part of 2 weeks there are significant concerns as to whether it has passed the key test of resilience and sustainability.

A special meeting of the Beard Liberation Front on 18th August reviewed the former Justice Secretary’s new appearance and agreed that the MP did indeed have sufficient facial hair for a beard.

A picture of Gove’s new beard appeared in the London Evening Standard on 17th August and the BLF meeting agreed, narrowly, that the MP is now sporting a chin hipster beard.

However serious doubts were expressed as to whether Gove’s beard was both resilient and sustainable and it was agreed that the matter would be reviewed again on 28th August

Gove missed out on the chance to become Tory leader and faces an uncertain political future on the backbenches.

A beard can begin the process of political re-assessment not just over policies but image as well as Al Gore found when he lost the chance to become US President and instead grew his beard.

The campaigners discounted suggestions that Gove has grown a Corbyn tribute beard.

BLF Organiser Keith Flett said, we gave Michael Gove’s beard conditional support on 18th August but it was a controversial move and the review on 28th August found there was not sufficient evidence to justify any further view. We await updated evidence on what has happened to the Gove beard.
