The Beard Liberation Front, the informal network of beard wearers, has said that the 2016 Beards, Shorts and Sandals season has reached its peak in the recent warm weather in some parts of the UK.

The campaigners say that with temperatures well above 20C in some places the rise in the wearing of beards, shorts and sandals has been significant

Shorts and sandals may be worn all day until 9pm at the discretion of the wearer.

The campaigners say that the image of organic beard, shorts and sandals is one of the key male fashions of 2016 not just in Hackney and Dalston but across large parts of the UK as fashions change and develop.

The official season traditionally runs until August 31st. During that period the wearing of shorts and sandals- preferably without socks unless special dispensation is given-is permitted for BLF supporters.

The BLF says that ‘beards, shorts and sandals’ is often a stereotype deployed by pogonophobes and so the wearing of shorts and sandals by the hirsute is best done within an agreed and defendable framework.

BLF Organiser Keith Flett said If beards and shorts and sandals are worn in busy City streets care should be taken to have robust sandals or permission for sock wearing may be given. We can confirm that Jeremy Corbyn has BLF permission, exceptionally, to wear socks on official occasions because of the real and present danger that hostile forces may try to tread on his sandals.

BLF Organiser Keith Flett in The Guardian (26th July) on the issue of beards, sandals and socks:

  • Criticism of Jeremy Corbyn’s beard is one thing but the suggestion that socks should be worn with the beard and sandals (Brief letters, 25 July) is an unforgivable hirsute fashion faux pas.

  1. Reblogged this on In the Dark and commented:

  2. For some bizarre reason, and as one who would normally be sniffy about the socks/beard/sandals combo, and even more sneery about the addition of SHORTS (you can tell I’m female), this photo of Jeremy Corbyn fills me with unalloyed joy. Thank you for making my morning.

  3. Dear Beard Liberation Front

As the writer of the Guardian letter about socks with sandals to which Mr Flett responded, I’m afraid that he apparently missed the point – and the joke: that stereotypical bearded, sandal-clad Lefties have no fashion sense, and will happily wear socks with sandals with no thought of fashion whatsoever, faux pas or otherwise.

    Yours beardedly
