Campaigners say May’s Cabinet has a beard deficit

The Beard Liberation Front, the informal network of beard wearers, has said that Theresa May’s new Cabinet has a serious beard deficit.

With the decision of former DWP Secretary Stephen Crabb to move to the backbenches after events that risked bringing the hirsute into disrepute, the Cabinet lacks a high profile beard.

The BLF says it hopes to see the bearded Scottish Secretary David Mundell reappointed- if only for that reason- (and as the only Scottish Tory MP) and it may be that a role will be found for Ed Vaizey who is currently sporting a beard again

BLF Organiser Keith Flett said, we are concerned obviously about diversity of appearance at the top of politics, not the politics itself. Theresa May’s promotion of several women to senior roles is welcome on a diversity basis, but she must address the Cabinet’s beard deficit.
