Clean shaven New Labour era draws to close as Lord Falconer wins Beard of Spring

The Beard Liberation Front, the network of beard wearers that campaigns against beardism, irrational prejudice against the hirsute, has said that veteran Labour politician Lord Falconer has won the coveted Beard of Spring 2016 Award after an on-line poll which saw him shave his nearest opponent by 20% of votes cast.

England cricketer Moeen Ali was second and comedian and author Alexei Sayle took third place

Lord Falconer was previously associated with the clean shaven revisionism of the New Labour era and shared a flat with Tony Blair. However in an recent interview with Total Politics he suggested that his beard is in line with trends in the country as a whole towards greater hirsuteness

The Award, one of four seasonal hirsute accolades that leads to the Beard of the Year in December, celebrates the coming of Spring and the growth of beards new and old.

BLF Organiser Keith Flett said Lord Falconer’s victory spells the end for the clean shaven revisionism of the Blair era and the rise of Corbynite hirsute politics, where beard power is a political asset.
