TRADE UNIONISTS SLAM SPURS HOSIPTALITY FOR DUNCAN SMITH
Haringey Trades Council, the local wing of the TUC covering Tottenham has slammed as ‘insensitive’ the hospitality given by the Club to Employment Secretary Iain Duncan Smith at the Spurs v Arsenal match at White Hart Lane on March 3rd.
Spurs won the game 2-1.
The Commons Register showed that Iain Duncan Smith and his son enjoyed hospitality in the Directors Box at the ground on the day to the tune of £2,400.
Tottenham is one of the areas chosen to trial the Employment’s Secretary’s plans for a benefit cap set at £500 a week for a couple.
Haringey TUC Secretary Keith Flett said it appears Duncan Smith is a Spurs supporter and of course we come from all walks of life. That said it surely must have occurred to the Employment Secretary that accepting hospitality for one afternoon of almost 5 times the amount he planned to cap the weekly benefits of an ordinary couple of in Tottenham at Spurs ground was extremely insensitive. He might at least have paid for his own ticket as other Spurs fans do
