TOTTENHAM TRADE UNIONISTS RENEW CALL FOR SUSPENSION OF POLICE IN DUGGAN CASE
Haringey TUC the local wing of the TUC in North London covering Tottenham has renewed its call for the suspension of police officers involved in the shooting of Mark Duggan at Tottenham Hale on 4th August.
The Trades Council originally made the call in the immediate aftermath of Mr Duggan’s death and before the Tottenham riot on 6th August. No action was taken.
The call has been renewed following a report in the Guardian [19 Nov] that Mr Duggan was not armed with a gun when he was shot dead by police.
Secretary of Haringey TUC Keith Flett said we feel that it is important that this issue gets a public airing. The facts of the matter remain to be determined but there are clearly very significant concerns that an unarmed man was shot dead unlawfully. He can no longer answer on the matter but it is surely prudent now for the officers concerned to be suspended for their own good and in the public interest
