HUNDREDS MARCH IN NORTH LONDON AGAINST GOVERNMENT CUTS
Haringey TUC has said that up to 300 protesters from trade unions and community groups marched in a demonstration across the Borough on Saturday to underline opposition to Government cuts and their impact in the area.
The march was called by umbrella coalition the Haringey Alliance for Public Services. It rallied at Haringey Civic Centre and marched through the central shopping area of Wood Green High Rd to a rally near the Bernie Grant Centre in Tottenham.
The Trade Unionists say that the turn-out on the march underlines that the fight against cuts in services and jobs continues and that widespread disruption is expected in the Borough on June 30th when a number of Unions take action against changes to pension arrangements
Haringey Trades Council Chair Simon Hester said the march was lively and diverse with anti-cuts activists and delegations from under threat children’s centres plus a good representation from the local Turkish community. Crucially there was an extremely good response from shoppers as the march went along
